Access: This event will be hosted as a Zoom Meeting with automated captions available to all attendees. Participation is welcome with video on or off as preferred. About the Tutor
Alby James is a producer, director, screenwriter and talent development trainer. He currently heads Dramatic Encounters, a production company that seeks to redress the neglect of stories that include the black perspective in contemporary and historical films and drama. Through the company’s academy, he also assists emerging writers, directors, story editors and producers to understand how to develop high quality scripts and avoid stereotyping minorities. At the beginning of his career, for 15 years Alby was a theatre director, including 9 year as artistic director of Temba Theatre Company. He’s also worked as a change manager and on committees to help arts and media companies internationally adopt and fulfil diversity and inclusion. He’s won awards for his work as a writer, producer and director and was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 2019 New Year’s Honours List. In December 2022, he received an Honorary D. Litt from the University of London.
