Newly crowned Clarissa Luard Award-winning publisher Peepal Tree Press will celebrate the writing career of beloved TLC Reader Jacob Ross by publishing his new short story collection Tell No-One About This on 20th November. Ross, who is also Associate Fiction Editor at the publiher, and has been hailed as ‘a writer of formidable technical range and emotional depth’. This collection will include stories spanning his forty-two year writing career and has been described as a ‘truthful examination of our fraught, unsteady and ambivalent relations with one another and the world we live in.’ by acclaimed poet David Constantine. It focuses on characters caught at specific moments of realisation or self-discovery, and explores the problematic nature of the male psyche.

Jacob has been a Reader and Tutor with TLC for many years, leading our annual Literary Adventure in Spain twice as tutor, and running workshops on narratology, and the craft of fiction, in various formats. A champion for inclusivity in publishing, Jacob delivered a rousing speech at the launch of TLC’s Quality Writing Campaign in 2015 which can be heard here.
Jacob’s latest novel The Bone Readers was published in 2016, and was the inaugural winner Jhalak Prize in 2017 – a new prize which celebrates British authors of colour.
About Jacob 
Jacob Ross was born in Grenada, and has lived in Britain since 1984. He is a poet, playwright, journalist, editor, novelist and a tutor of Narrative Craft. He is the author of acclaimed short story collections Song for Simone (1986) and A Way to Catch the Dust (1999); co-editor with Joan Anim-Addo of Voice, Memory, Ashes (1998); co-author with Kwesi Owusu of Behind the Masquerade: The Story of Notting Hill Carnival (1986); Ridin’ n Risin and Turf – Anthologies of Short Stories with Andrea Enisuoh and editor of the Guardian Best Books-selected collection of Black British short stories, Closure (2015) with Peepal Tree Press, where he is Associate Fiction Editor. His first novel, Pynter Bender, was published in 2008. In 2006 Jacob Ross was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was one of the judges of the V.S. Pritchett Memorial Prize in 2008 and the Tom-Gallon Award in 2009.
