TLC Welcomes Cairo Aibangbee

TLC is delighted to welcome Cairo Aibangbee into the newly created role of Programmes and Marketing Assistant. From March 1st, Cairo will join the in-house team, working part-time and remotely from Northampton to help deliver TLC’s marketing, communications and audience development strategies. The application process for this role was incredibly competitive, with well over 500 applications. In her new role, Cairo will be responsible for creating marketing content and supporting our programming, with a focus on growing TLC’s Being A Writer community and communicating the impact of our core editorial services and offers for writers writing at all levels. We would like to thank our outgoing Marketing and Communications Officer Amy Lord, whom we are grateful to for developing our marketing, communications and audience development strategies which Cairo will be supported by. A huge thank you to Amy for her wonderful work which will prove invaluable as we move forward and grow as an organisation.

Of the appointment, TLC Director Aki Schilz says: “Cairo’s enthusiasm, energy and out-of-the-box thinking blew us away at interview. We immediately identified her entrepreneurial spirit, but most of all it was her intense curiosity and appetite for learning, in a completely new environment, that really made us think she could bring something really special to this role. We are completely thrilled to welcome her into the team and can’t wait to have her helping us tell the story of TLC to the world, and to the people that matter most to us: writers.”

Cairo is a writer, event producer and social entrepreneur with a focus on marginalised womxn and Black Communities. She is an award-winning playwright and poet, and alumnus of the prestigious Apples and Snakes Writing Room and The Soho Theatre’s Writer’s Lab.

Cairo founded Black Girls Brunch UK, a community interest company that curates’ safe spaces and events for Black Women in the UK to ‘Redefine the Room’ and have a seat at their own table.
