Wellbeing for Writers Forum: Pitching

October 5, 2023 @ 5:00 pm 6:30 pm

What are the challenges to sustaining wellbeing when pitching work to the industry? How can we manage our expectations in order to move forwards, and not get stuck?

A free-to-attend, interactive event.

Join coach, writer, and teacher Andrew Kaye Kauffmann for the second in a series of interactive and reflective fora on wellbeing for writers, as part of TLC’s work thinking about ways that we can help writers thrive in an environment which presents a range of challenges and barriers. We consider the question: what are the challenges when it comes to sending our work to be read by ‘the industry’? And how can we navigate these challenges in order to protect our sense of wellbeing?

Across three free-to-attend sessions, we will be exploring three key topics we have identified through member surveys, feedback groups, previous research studies and conversations with the Centre for Creativity and Wellbeing at the University of Brighton, our partners for this series.

In this forum, we explore wellbeing through the lens of Pitching.

Through a series of break-out groups and open discussions, this interactive session puts your voice first. We will explore such questions as: ´When you send work, what impact (if any) does this have on your wellbeing?´, and ´What are the challenges, barriers, and unknowns?´ We will also consider what prevents us from sending, and what happens in the immediate aftermath of having sent work out to industry gate-keepers.

Participants will have the opportunity to map and understand their own reactions to the different ways that work gets ‘pitched’ in this unique interactive forum, and have their voices heard and reflected in TLC’s ongoing Literary Culture report, which we will be developing over the next 2-3 years to reflect the culture of writing and literature, in the words of the writers themselves.
