We’re delighted that Oana Aristide, a TLC client, has been shortlisted and received an Honorary Mention in the Fish Publishing Short Story Prize for her short story ‘Venom’. ‘Venom’ is one of the stories Oana has submitted to TLC for assessment by Jude Cook, alongside a novella, and other stories read by James Pusey. It’s also great to see TLC client Cary Hodgkinson, whose collection of stories was assessed by Rachel Trezise, and Maggie Ling, whose work was assessed by Sarah Westcott, also featured on the prize’s longlist.
We’ve also received news that Divya Ghelani, who has just completed the TLC mentoring scheme Chapter and Verse and was mentored by Ray Robinson, has received an Honorary Mention as a runner-up for the Harry Bowling Prize. About the extract from her novel Runaway which she submitted to the competition, the judges said:
‘We found Leyla Kumar to be a believable character, the author brought this young girl vividly to life. The urban theme of the Harry Bowling Prize shines through with multicultural Leicester city at the heart of this story. We found the initial description of the key character, Leyla’s controversial teacher Mrs. Schroeder, intriguing, especially as we know from the first sentence of the novel that she is going to meet a violent end…’
