TLC has appointed Amy Lord into the newly created role of Marketing and Communications Officer. From November, Amy will join the in-house team, working part-time and remotely from her base in the North East of England to help develop TLC’s marketing, communications and audience development strategies. Amy joins Joe Sedgwick and Nelima Begum in the Writing Services team, supporting strategy across TLC’s writing services and public programming.
Of the appointment, TLC Director Aki Schilz said:
“This feels like an exciting time for TLC, as we look to the future and the kind of team we need to build in order to get us there. We are working on an ambitious 5-year strategy and in order to support this, we realised we needed to hire someone with real expertise in marketing and communications with a holistic view of brand positioning, and a deep understanding of the offer TLC represents in the writing service space, as a company fully invested in the development of services that respond to writers’ needs, whatever their aims with their work. The role was created out of consultation in-house and with our trusted Advisory Board. It was heartening to hear from applicants that they appreciated a post that allowed for flexible hours and home working, and we were astounded at the high level and volume of applicants. Following a week of interviews, it became clear that Amy was the person for the job. We were all hugely impressed with her vast and varied experience, her strategic outlook, and her thoughtful, detailed approach to the scenarios put to her at interview. As we move into a new phase for TLC, we look forward to challenging ourselves to think about who we are, what we stand for, and how we communicate the value of what we do, and therefore the value of editing more generally.”
Amy Lord added:
“As a writer, I’m familiar with TLC and the brilliant service they offer. I was fortunate to receive one of their Free Reads when writing my debut novel, and the feedback was incredibly beneficial. I’m delighted to join the TLC team and support their marketing strategy, reaching out to new audiences and, hopefully, helping aspiring writers to develop their work and achieve their dreams.”
