TLC Mentoring Scheme Terms and Conditions

  • These terms and conditions, together with our privacy policy govern The Literary Consultancy’s relationship with you in relation to TLC Chapter and Verse Mentoring. Please also refer to your Chapter and Verse contract.
  • Acceptance onto the Chapter and Verse programme is subject to an application being made in line with our application procedure which can be found here.
  • In the unlikely event we are unable to find you a suitable mentor, we reserve the right to not allocate a course place.
  • Payment must be made in advance of course commencement. In exceptional circumstances, we will consider those who wish to pay in two instalments (Classic) or three instalments (Premium).
  • It is up to you to agree a mutually convenient schedule with your mentor. Course participants need to be aware that they should aim to complete their mentoring sessions within one calendar year of commencement, although we will of course bear in mind any extenuating circumstances that might occur during your course.
  • All Chapter and Verse sessions must be completed within 24 months of the contract start date. TLC is not liable for any sessions left unclaimed beyond this time.
  • Should a submission ‘deadline’ run over by a period of more than four weeks, a mentor may not be able to respond to your submission within two weeks. In the case of any delay/postponement, it is the mentee’s responsibility to communicate with the mentor and the TLC office immediately. Continuous late, un-notified submission will be considered a breach of these terms and conditions.
  • Mentors will agree the best method of communicating with you. All mentors will undertake six tutorial sessions via email with written feedback provided (Classic) or seven tutorial sessions in person/via Zoom (Premium).
  • Course participants must respect the boundaries of the mentor/student relationship, and not attempt to contact their mentor outside the terms agreed at the outset of the course. TLC will take any attempt to breach these boundaries seriously.
  • In the highly unlikely event that you should be unhappy with your mentor or the feedback you are receiving, please contact The Literary Consultancy directly and we will do our best to resolve the situation.
  • Whilst we realise that receiving feedback is a sensitive process, and whilst we wish to work with as wide a range of clients as possible,  we expect clients to behave in a professional manner and reserve the right to stop working with a client should their manner be offensive to our staff.
  • Whilst we are broadminded and accept that writing deals with subject matter of all kinds, we reserve the right not to process work if we deem it to be excessively and unacceptably offensive.
  • If problems should occur that cannot be resolved, and it is agreed that continuing the mentoring process would not be the best option, TLC will offer a full refund for sessions not yet undertaken, minus £350 to cover our administration costs.
  • For the mentoring industry day in London, participants must be responsible for their own travelling expenses (and accommodation expenses, if needed).
  • Submissions for the TLC full manuscript read should be made within a maximum of six months of your final mentoring session. Final mentoring manuscript submissions should not exceed 100,000 words in length. For general terms and conditions pertaining to TLC manuscript assessments, please see here.
  • TLC reserves the right to cancel the mentoring process entirely if mentees breach the terms and conditions of this programme.
