Liam Brown, who came through our Arts Council Free Reads bursary scheme, has had world rights to his debut novel, Real Monsters, bought by Legend Press. The book is due for release as a lead title for the publisher in Spring 2015. It follows Lorna, whose father has been killed in a terrorist attack, and Danny, a young soldier changed by his experiences of warfare and combat. Real Monsters was shortlisted for the 2013 Luke Bitmead Bursary, and was signed by Commissioning Editor Lauren Parsons. You can read more about Liam’s ‘gritty’ debut here.
Of his experience with TLC, Liam said:
“Sometimes you’re standing so close to something it’s impossible to see it properly. My TLC Free Read [by Doug Johnstone] offered me the fresh perspective and insight I needed to lick my novel into the best possible shape. For a struggling writer, the help couldn’t have come at a better time.”
