The Literary Consultancy is inviting writers – published, unpublished, and everything in between – to be involved in a short film showing the world that we are writers, and telling them why we write. All you need is a mobile phone, camera or laptop to record a 10-second video answering the question ‘Why do you write?’ We will review all of the submissions, and collate our favourites into a short film that will be premiered at a special event called ‘Why I Write: Tales of Creativity and Resilience’. Also premiering at the event will be four short film commissions featuring four celebrated authors. Want to share your video on your own social channels? You’re very welcome to! Simply tag it #WhyIWrite.*

Following the event, all five films will be made freely available online. Not all clips may make it into the final piece, but we’ll be sharing as many as we can across our social media channels, and on the TLC website.

This portal will be open for submissions until midday, Friday 21st May 2021 at which point, we will no longer be taking video submissions. We will contact the writers selected to appear in the video in the week after this date.

*Please note that sharing your video online will not enter it into the project. To submit your video for the ‘Why I Write’ crowd-sourced video, you must upload it using the form below.
