The Literary Consultancy presents four specially commissioned short films featuring some of the UK’s most exciting writers, telling their story of how they became writers; and how you can too.

‘Why I Write: Tales of Creativity and Resilience’ will be presented as a digital premiere in July 2021. Also featured will be a crowdsourced film featuring writers from all over the world, telling us why they write. ‘Why I Write’ is a project in partnership with Story Machine Productions, as part of a year-long programme celebrating TLC’s 25th Anniversary. A TLC Associate Artist fund will be established using 100% of the ‘Why I Write’ premiere ticket proceeds, to be awarded to a writer writing with creativity and imagination about the future. The callout for applications for the Associate Artist will prioritise those without creative writing qualifications (e.g., BAs or MAs) in order to widen the field of opportunity to find exciting new voices in storytelling.

The TLC ‘Why I Write’ films feature:

Hanif Kureishi
Kit de Waal
Ashley Hickson-Lovence
Elle McNicoll
