95% of Conscious Writing Month 2024 participants noted that attending the series had a positive effect on their sense of creativity. 85% told us it had a positive impact on their writing in other ways including boosting wellbeing, creating curiosity, sparking connection, and empowering ethical ways of being.
Here are some things our 2024 participants had to say:
“Conscious Writing Month came at just the right time for me with its diverse and inclusive events. Each session felt like a comfortable and safe community place. The speakers exuded their love for their respective topics and made me feel welcome and less alone.”
“An engaging, informative, inclusive and welcoming space was created across this programme. The range of speakers was exceptional: each offered either a deepening of practice or new ideas and ways of approaching writing, activism and care. I really looked forward to each session and got a lot from them, including a strong sense of community and compassion from other participants.”
“Each of the carefully thought-out sessions offered a string of wonderfully helpful suggestions to take away, consider, try out, and work into a writing life. Thank you!”
“Conscious Writing Month is such a helpful space for those serious about developing their craft.”
“The Conscious Writing Month sessions inspired and facilitated me to think deeply about how I can positively improve my creative practice, and the purpose of my work, to benefit my well being, the lives of others, and enhance my creative outcomes.”
“This programme has been packed with amazing, lasting value for me as a writer and as a person. I feel more confident about the place writing has in my life.”

A Masterclass in Slowness (Alycia Pirmohamed)
Reclaiming Time as a Writer
A masterclass on how to reclaim slowness and time in our speedy digital age. Writer and critic Alycia Pirmohamed considers how we as writers can be ‘productive’ whilst taking care of the self, pushing back on the frenzied modern pressure of the now-now-now and instead proposing a pace that doesn’t seek to shorten time: instead opening it up. In this webinar we reclaim our work as art, and reclaim our most sacred internal rhythms with it.
30th October 7-8.30pm BST
Page Presence (Salena Godden)
How to Tell (and Sell) your Story
The publishing industry is filled with advice about how to pitch your work quickly and convincingly by creating a hook. But what if you don’t know what your ‘hook’ is, or don’t feel you have one? Join novelist and performance poet Salena Godden as we explore tools to help us tell our stories loud and proud, working from within to take up the space we deserve. Build your page presence in this empowering webinar and go from Backstage Betty to Lights, Camera, Story! in just 90 minutes.
6th November 7-8.30pm BST
Writing With Grief (Khairani Barokka)
Language as Lament, Resistance and Repair
A masterclass in writing creatively in times of personal and planetary mourning. Multi-format writer and activist Khairani Barokka takes us through a range of exercises as we consider how to write with grief, both as a subject matter (from losing loved ones to thinking about climate erosion, war, and societal upheaval) and as a lived experience. Together, we will consider how to build community as a means of repair. In this session, come and find out how to capture and honour what is disappearing and disappeared, in a safe and supported environment.
13th November 7-8.30pm BST
Changing the Canon (Penny Batchelor, Rishi Dastidar and Natasha Carthew)
How to Curate & Create Without Burning Out
A conversation on anthologising, authorship, and sustaining the long work of literary change. If you are a writer who does a lot of other things outside of your writing, whether by impulse or from necessity, join us for this illuminating conversation about what it means to be multiple, to navigate the industry as someone trying to build something better for everyone, and how to protect your mental health and wellbeing whilst still building, moving, working, and writing – about the world and into it.
20th November 7-8.30pm BST
Just Write It (Anthony Anaxagorou)
How to navigate your manuscript and the literary world
The literary world can feel overwhelming and inaccessible, particularly if you don’t have contacts. On top of this, the work of ‘being a writer’ can feel heavy and burdensome particularly if you care about how you move through life in a world that feels like it’s constantly on fire. How can we stay true to our moral compass, but also get the work done? Combining practical craft tips from his book How to Write It with reflections on mindful navigation of the industry, this workshop with Anthony Anaxagorou will support you to unlock your potential, and find your most powerful writing voice.
25th November 6-7pm BST
Guided Meditation (Aki Schilz)
Agent Success
In this bonus session, join us for a special and exclusive guided meditation that takes you through how to submit your work to agents and publishers and break down internal barriers in the process. Using a mind mapping technique, we use gentle prompts to visualise, manifest, and interrogate to help you overcome blocks and move forwards with confidence and clarity.
