October Member Events

October 1 @ 8:00 am October 31 @ 5:00 pm

Welcome to our October members-only events, for members of TLC’s platform, Being A Writer. Being A Writer is a membership community that offers writers a safe space to be creative, and to find support. The aim of Being A Writer is to create a community of happier, healthier writers: our focus is on helping writers to cultivate creativity, and boost wellbeing and resilience. All Being A Writer events are co-created, meaning that we programme in direct response to our members’ feedback and needs.

In July our focus is on PLANNING: how do we plan our ideas in a way that best serves us, that takes us towards (not away from) the work, that retains a sense of joy, and that helps us stay on track with our writing goals?

All times below are UK, but we welcome members from all over the world and have included a variety of times to help accommodate for different time zones. All workshops will be available to watch back.

Write Club Flash

October 1st 7-8pm BST

On the first and second Thursday of each month, join Chloe Timms for a one hour evening co-writing session. We understand that time is precious, and we want to offer a no-pressure space for writers wanting to check in more frequently than our monthly Write Club, and who might have less time to spare. This is time purely for you to write in a supportive space alongside your peers, on our Circle platform. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mindful Goal Setting
October 7th 12-1pm BST

Join Louise Tondeur for our monthly lunchtime goal-setting sessions, to help you achieve your writing goals this year in a way that is holistic and mindful of our wellbeing. Create meaningful frameworks and grab our free Writing Goals resource which Louise has designed to help you pick the right kind of goals for you. We will use short creative prompts to help you check in with where you are, visualise where you want to be, and set a path to get there.

Five Ways to Plan Your Book
October 15th 7-8.30pm BST, online

When it comes to planning a book, there is no silver bullet approach: each project, genre, form and writer will need a way ‘in’ and ‘through’ that is the best fit in the moment. But there are tried and tested principles of planning that we can draw on. In this workshop, join author Karina Lickorish Quinn (The Dust Never Settles, Oneworld) as she shares methods used by acclaimed writers, practical planning tips she has used for her own novels, short stories and non fiction with illustrative examples, and some exercises to try in-session to help you find the best way forwards for you and your writing. Come and be inspired to plan better, more efficiently, and more joyfully!

Lightbulb Coaching
October 17th all day (registration deadline, limited places available)

Book a 30-minute Lightbulb Coaching Session with coaches and publishing professionals Aki Schilz or Julia Forster to focus on one aspect of your creative practice or professional development into which you’d like a quick, deep dive to clarify your very next step. These non-directive conversations are ideal if you need a carefully held space in which to ignite and amplify the deep-seated spark of inspiration inside you. Registration deadline September 9th.

Write Club
27th October 10am-12.30pm BST

Every last Sunday of the month, Being A Writer hosts an online write club from 10am to 12.30pm (UK time). We understand that time is precious, and we want to offer a no-pressure space for writers wanting to check in once a month for some quality writing time. Log in at 9.50am for a 10-minute briefing session, and to fill out a goal-setting worksheet for the morning. Then, use the time to write alongside your peers. We will check in with everyone at the midway point, and at the end of the session, to share how we’ve got on and to set goals for the coming month. Otherwise, this is time for you to write in a supportive space alongside your peers. It’s surprising how motivating this can be!

Writers’ Cafe
31st October 12-1pm BST

Every last Thursday of the month, Being A Writer hosts an online Writers’ Cafe from 12pm-1pm (UK time). Writers’ Cafe is a space where writers can come together and instead of writing, or giving peer feedback, we talk about our writing lives: what’s working, what isn’t, and how we can support each other with motivation, tips and shared resources. Drop in once a month and find support and community with fellow writers. Hosted by Cairo Aibangbee.

**We also offer series bookings for coaching, as well as one to one consultancy sessions (which are distinct from coaching and offer practical support), at discounted rates to members. Please enquire if you are interested in hearing more:
