TLC Self Editing Courses: Enrolment Open for 2025

Self Editing courses with TLC

Take your writing to the next level with TLC

TLC is delighted to announce the return of our two self-editing courses, developed in partnership with expert tutors. Starting in April, these courses are for writers who have a work in progress or completed manuscript and are working on either a novel, or a piece of full length creative non fiction.

“After completing the draft of my first novel, this was the ideal course at the ideal time for me. I have been impressed by the richness and usefulness of the material delivered. The content has generated insights and provided techniques to review my work objectively. It has also supported the development of a tailored editing process. Due to the course, I have gained confidence and feel that I am now equipped to do my novel justice in its final edits.”

This course has been liberating and exhilarating for my nonfiction writing. Xanthi is a gifted teacher. Her deep respect and curiosity for the form unravels self-imposed limits so one might ask better questions of the work. I came to the course hoping to acquire practical skills to polish and perhaps conceal. It’s a couple of weeks post-course and I am in such a different place when I edit work. The tedious reticence is faint and instead, there is an authority that can enjoy the challenges and questions of the work.

Self Editing: Fiction with Jon Barton April 30th-June 4th and September 17th-October 22nd.

Self Editing: Non Fiction with Xanthi Barker September 8th-October 13th.

About TLC Courses

TLC’s tutored courses have been designed to help you elevate your writing. They focus on what we do best: editing.

Course modules are informed by three decades of work with writers, and incorporate TLC’s Reading Principles (used by our own professional Editors) and TLC’s Ethical Editing principles (used by publishers). Modules have been carefully curated to incorporate a wide range of perspectives including international storytelling frameworks, and consideration of neurodivergence and self-care.

How it Works

Teaching is conducted over 6 weeks, with 12 live teaching hours. There is one 100% bursary available for each course and 2 places available on a 50% bursary basis. All details can be found in the individual event pages below.
