We are delighted to share the good news of Camilla Chester, Mslexia Children’s Prize finalist, and TLC Client, who has secured a commission with an online resource library for schools, called Serial Mash. After a manuscript assessment with TLC Reader Antonia Prescott, and further diligent editing on her children’s book-in-progress, Camilla decided to send her story ‘City Farm’ to Serial Mash. The story idea that Antonia critiqued for her has now been accepted as a potential new series.
Serial Mash offers children a library of online guided reading books, and provides teachers with a new chapter to read every week of term.
Camilla spoke to us about her experience with TLC, and finding success with ‘City Farm’:
“I was lucky enough to win a full MS critique as part of my Mslexia Children’s Finalist Prize. Instead of using it for the book that was in the competition, I chose City Farm, book one of a potential series that I had written with early readers in mind. It was a very simple process – my work was given to Antonia who then sent me back a very detailed and highly insightful report. The report was incredibly useful, not just for that particular piece of work, but for my approach to character voice as a whole.
It has made me think about habits I have fallen into and how I might use different skills and techniques instead. I’m a self-published Children’s Author and, although I am on the path to becoming traditionally published, I also write on commission for Serial Mash. I’m very grateful to Antonia, TLC (and of course Mslexia) for the help I received and would definitely recommend TLC services to other writers.”
