We’re always excited to hear back from former TLC clients who go on to find success with their writing, whether that be via self-publication, traditional publication, or even bringing that work-in-progress to a final draft with the help of a manuscript assessment. So we were thrilled to see that former Chapter & Verse Mentee and novelist Damyanti Biswas had made the Amazon bestseller list with her debut novel You Beneath Your Skin.
Damyanti, who was mentored by TLC industry editor Rose Gaete in 2015, before having a final manuscript assessment with editor and novelist Sanjida Kay, has had great success with her debut crime novel, making the Amazon bestseller list and being listed as a ‘hot new release’ in multiple categories. After securing representation from Ed Wilson at Johnson and Alcock, You Beneath Your Skin was published in physical format in India by Simon & Schuster and is available on Amazon in Kindle format internationally.
About the Book
It’s a dark, smog-choked new Delhi winter. Indian American single mother Anjali Morgan juggles her job as a psychiatrist with caring for her autistic teenage son. She is in a long-standing affair with ambitious police commissioner Jatin Bhatt – an irresistible attraction that could destroy both their lives.
Jatin’s home life is falling apart: his handsome and charming son is not all he appears to be, and his wife has too much on her plate to pay attention to either husband or son. But Jatin refuses to listen to anyone, not even the sister to whom he is deeply attached.
Across the city there is a crime spree: slum women found stuffed in trash bags, faces and bodies disfigured by acid. And as events spiral out of control Anjali is horrifyingly at the centre of it all …
About the Author
Damyanti lives in Singapore, and works with Delhi’s underprivileged children as part of Project Why, a charity that promotes education and social enhancement in underprivileged communities. Her short stories have been published in magazines in the US, UK, and Asia, and she helps edit the Forge Literary Magazine. She has also been shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award and longlisted for the Mslexia Novel Competition.
On her experience with TLC, Damyanti said:
Working with Rose Gaete from TLC was an enlightening experience. Here was a compassionate mentor pointing out the flaws in my storytelling, and getting me excited to make changes. A read and review of the text by Sanjida Kay afterwards brought it much closer to the final draft, and led to a longlisting for the Bath and Mslexia awards. I’m happy that Simon & Schuster India have now published You Beneath Your Skin, and it has already hit Amazon besteller lists and is a hot new release in multiple categories.
