We are delighted that acclaimed novelist and creative writing tutor Kerry Hudson has joined our roster of excellent mentors for the TLC Chapter and Verse mentoring programme, which provides one-on-one support to writers with the aim to complete a book-length project, over six online mentoring sessions, a full TLC assessment of a completed draft of their work, and an in-house Industry Day with the opportunity to meet an agent and editor, and learn more about the publishing industry. Kerry is the founder of the hugely successful WoMentoring Project, and teaches with the National Academy of Writing at Cambridge University, Arvon Foundation, Writers’ Centre Norwich. She has also been a mentor for IdeasTap Inspires. Kerry’s own work has been published around the world and her debut novel, Tony Hogan Bought Me an Ice-Cream Float Before He Stole My Ma (Penguin Random House) was the winner of the Scottish First Book Award and shortlisted for the Southbank Sky Arts Literature Award, Guardian First Book Award, Green Carnation Prize, Author’s Club First Novel Prize and the Polari First Book Award. Her second novel, Thirst, was shortlisted for the Green Carnation Prize and has just been longlisted for France’s prestigious Prix Femina. Kerry has also gained considerable recognition within the industry, and was in 2014 named a Bookseller ‘Rising Star’ and a WH Smiths 2015 ‘Fresh Talent’ pick.
Kerry says:
“I’m so delighted to be TLC Chapter and Verse’s newest mentor. I’ve long admired TLC’s commitment to providing innovative and excellent quality development opportunities for writers so it’s fantastic to be part of the team. I’ve seen first hand the amazing things that both offering and receiving mentoring can do and I’m very excited to be able to help writers reach their full potential with TLC and Chapter and Verse.”
We look forward to working with Kerry, who has already signed up her first TLC mentee. A list of Chapter and Verse mentors can be found here, and a selection of testimonials here. Full details of the scheme, including how to apply, can be found here.
