TLC client Maggie Ling was recently short-listed for the 2010 Asham Award for her short story Cold Snap. The ghost or gothic themed short story award is for stories under 4,000 words that have been written by unpublished women writers. The winning writers will be notified in March 2011 and the first, second and third prizewinner will be announced in September 2011 at the Small Wonder short story festival. In addition, the twelve winning writers will all be published by Virago in the Asham Anthology, alongside specially commissioned stories by Naomi Alderman, Kate Clanchy, Petina Gappah and Polly Sansom.
The short story was originally written in the summer of 2002 when Maggie gave up doing cartoon and illustration work to write full time. The story was assessed by TLC’s Richard Skinner, in the autumn of that year.
Maggie Ling also recently had her short story, Dick’s Life, included in the Unthology No 1, published by Unthank Books on December 1st.
We wish the best of luck for Maggie!
