Location – Casa Ana, Spain
Casa Ana, your base for the week, is a beautiful retreat for writers, walkers, and anybody who enjoys an inspirational landscape of beauty and peace. Ferreirola, in which Casa Ana sits, is a small village nestled deep within the famous range of Alpujarras mountains in stunning Andalucia: famous for its Moorish history, and the surviving influence of the Moorish way of life. Casa Ana’s mesmerizing mountain location provides the perfect vantage point for thinking, writing, dreaming, walking, not to mention talking and enjoying yourselves. The spacious house was recently restored by Anne Hunt, a charming host who has run literary events and art festivals throughout the world.
Ferreirola is small, peaceful village within walking distance of Casa Ana. It boasts one laid-back bar and two or three superb restaurants within walking distance. Also near the house is the wonderful natural sparkling water spring, and the restored ancient threshing circle: many find these iconic spots interesting and inspirational.
During the week a couple of optional excursions will be on offer, including a trip to nearby Pampaneira, during which one can enjoy majestic views of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains as well as the town’s lively cafes and shops.
As you will see from the programme, the week is designed for people who want to stay close to Casa Ana, working with their own inspirations and bonding gently with other participants and tutors. Please be aware that Casa Ana’s location is remote, though should you wish to explore the region further your host will be able to advise on car hire or private bus charter (please see the Travel section).
How to Get Here
Transfers to and from Casa Ana are included in the fee, with our private mini bus departing at 3.30pm sharp from Malaga city centre on the first day of the Literary Adventure (the Saturday). Malaga airport is currently served by a number of airlines including Ryanair, Easyjet, Norwegian Air and British Airways. We recommend a price comparison site such as Skyscanner to find and book your flights in advance for the best prices. Please ensure you leave enough time to make your way through baggage reclaim and into the city centre in time for the mini bus pick-up. The city centre is around 20 minutes from the airport by taxi or train. On the final day of the Adventure, we will make two stops: one at Malaga airport, and one in the city centre. We highly recommend you book flights leaving at or after 2pm to ensure ample time to get through check-in and security. Malaga is well-connected, but it is a small airport.
If you wish to stay overnight the evening before travelling on to Casa Ana, we recommend staying close to the city centre (a range of hotels are available, from budget stays like the Don Curro, or more upmarket hotels including the AC Marriott). Those Literary Adventure guests staying the night before have traditionally met for a meal before the journey to the retreat. This is optional, but can be a nice way to meet your fellow participants. Do let us know if you plan to arrive on the Friday, and we can put you in touch with your fellow Adventurers.
