SUMMARY:What EastEnders Taught Me About Writing Conflict
DESCRIPTION:What EastEnders Taught Me About Writing Conflict\n\n\n\nAt TLC we see hundreds of manuscripts each year. Consistently\, there are a few things that writers stumble on. One of these is the issue of conflict. Are the stakes high enough? What is driving the story? Where is the jeopardy being generated from? What\, exactly\, is the friction that sparks the fire of the key plot points? In screenwriting\, there is nowhere to hide from the fundamental need for this essential driving force of storytelling. So who better to learn from than a novelist who’s written for one of the most dramatic and historic soaps in TV history: EastEnders. Come and learn from Chloe how she structures her stories to ensure that conflict drives action\, and hear how her writing practice has evolved working across formats. \n\n\n\nAbout your speaker\n\n\n\nAbout your speakerChloe Timms is a writer\, campaigner\, mentor and podcast host from the Kent coast. She was selected from over 300 applicants for the Writers’ Studio: EastEnders and made it to commission\, with her first episode airing 24th February 2026. Chloe also writes for magazines\, including Inside Soap Magazine. Her debut novel\, The Seawomen\, was released in 2023 by Hodder & Stoughton\, and in 2022 Chloe launched her podcast Confessions of a Debut Novelist. She studied for an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Kent and won a scholarship at the Faber Academy. \n\n\n\nThis event is free for members of TLC’s Being A Writer platform. If you are a member simply head to Circle to RSVP. A very limited number of non member tickets are available for purchase.
