TLC Director Aki Schilz will be leading a fiction writing workshop for London Writers’ Cafe on June 20th at The Railway Tavern, on dialogue and point of view.

In this session we’ll learn how to create authentic, engaging dialogue, as well as manipulate points of view in fiction writing. We’ll explore how the two relate when it comes to writing believable, well-rounded characters whose interactions will hinge, among other things, on how they speak to each other, and crucially what the writer allows us to hear them say aloud.

The session will touch on how different points of view can be used to further exploit the spaces between what is said and what is not, and what is ‘seen’ or ‘heard’ by the characters whose interactions are so crucial in driving story, the engine of narrative fiction, forwards. There will be some practical exercises, a little theory, and some examples drawn from the tutor’s experience as a literary prize judge and editorial consultant.
