The Literary Consultancy, Unbound and Renaissance One are delighted to be co-launching the memoir by writer and performer Penny Pepper, First in the World Somewhere (Unbound 2017).

About the Book

A unique book of creative purpose, sexual discovery, activism – driven by defiance – First in the World Somewhere covers the era of the mid 1980s to 1999.

In 1985 Thatcher’s UK is a battle zone…I’m a shy punk mutineer with a passion for words and music, craving freedom from a poor Chiltern Hills council estate. I don’t have what others take for granted. I am disabled. Yet I do have raw, burgeoning talent to fight the demons of indifference, discrimination and out-right bigotry.

About Penny Pepper

Penny Pepper is a writer of poetry and prose, and a performer, speaker and journalist. She writes regularly for The Guardian and other publications. She is featured widely on BBC radio programmes including Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour (Seven Women Seven Decades), With Great Pleasure with Liz Carr and Four Thought, and in 2017 performs at Edinburgh Book Festival and The Hurst (Arvon Foundation) and Chats Palace. For the past two years she has been one of the Power 100, the most influential disabled people in the UK. In 2015, Penny launched TLC’s Quality Writing for All Campaign with a performance of her one-woman show which shares the name of her memoir. ‘First in the World Somewhere’ is published by Unbound in September 2017.
