A Free Word ‘Finding Power In Isolation’ Season online workshop

Curated by The Literary Consultancy

How do writers find their creative voice, to become more purposeful storytellers?

Often, we become obsessed with ‘what’ is written, and neglect to connect with ‘why’ we write in the first place. By focusing on our personal experiences, we will try to re-connect with our reasons for writing, and what we want to achieve with our voice.

In this inspiring and introspective workshop with award-winning novelist Patrice Lawrence, writers will be tasked with identifying their motivation for writing, so that they can connect with readers on a deeper, more powerful, level. This workshop will be made available as a video and downloadable text resource, with inspiring creative writing exercises for you to complete in your own time.

Finding Power in Isolation is a programme of content direct from writers, artists and activists whose voices are now more important than ever. The season launches with If I Feel Lonely Maybe U Do 2?, a live online performance from Travis Alabanza and Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley. The programme will then evolve over the coming weeks in tandem with our own collective experiences of isolation during this time.

Join us for a vital online session with Liv Wynter on pooling resources and mapping out care during lockdown, a live streamed gig of solo performances from punx of colour hosted by Decolonise Fest and contributions from Sabrina Mahfouz and other writers from the Smashing It anthology. We’ll also be presenting podcasts from Suzanne Alleyne and Talia Randall, a special zine book club hosted by OOMK, co-commissioned articles from gal-dem and Skin Deep, future facing writing resources from The Literary Consultancy and Ama Josephine Budge and new content from English PEN.
