*PRIVATE EVENT BY INVITATION ONLY*
On May 12th, The Literary Consultancy hosts a half-day session with representatives from seventeen regional literature development partners who deliver TLC’s nation-wide Free Reads bursary scheme for low-income, talented and under-represented writers across England. The scheme is supported by Arts Council England and more information can be found here. A TLC resources page for writers needing access to further support can be found here.
This exciting group represents a collective of organisations dedicated to supporting the work of writers based in England, from all backgrounds. The day will also include readings from four writers who have come through the Free Reads scheme, and an evaluation-led discussion of the scheme as we head into the final year of our three-year Quality Writing for All Campaign, funded by Arts Council England and supported by FMcM. We will use the information collated to continue to feed back to Arts Council about its success, and to think about how we might continue to improve the quality, outreach and impact of the scheme.
I am so grateful to TLC and Arts Council England for choosing my submission for the Free Read Scheme. I felt a huge sense of achievement at just being selected. As a marginalised writer I often feel the cards are stacked against me, however, I have been so encouraged by the report I received from my reader. I now see areas of my manuscript that can be tightened, which is invaluable. My reader, a published author, was kind and provided careful feedback so I now feel more confident in progressing my novel.
