Resources for Writers

As well as providing manuscript assessment, mentoring, and events for writers, The Literary Consultancy prides itself in being a champion of writers wherever they are on their journey. In this section of our website, you’ll find a wealth of resources to help you on your way, whether you are just starting to learn your craft, or are a well published author.

Blog

In 2016, TLC’s 20th anniversary year, we launched a blog as a space for thoughtful, non-promotional pieces on all things writing, editing and publishing. The TLC Blog is split into three key areas: Personal blogs, Writing Craft blogs, and Publishing Industry blogs. We have an extensive archive of over five years of monthly insights from writers, publishers and friends of TLC. If you’d like to pitch a Blog to TLC, find out more by clicking here.

Being A Writer

Being A Writer is a unique programme of support for writers that prioritises literary creativity and emotional resilience. Join our vibrant community of writers and enjoy self-study courses to tackle key barriers including imposter syndrome and self doubt, writer’s block, and lack of time and energy; events with publishing industry and wellness experts focussed on helping you write with confidence and purpose, including our popular monthly Online Write Club; and a podcast offering candid insights from a range of guests. As well as much, much more to explore.

Showcase

Once a month we highlight the work of a TLC writer whose work we believe deserves a platform, whether simply because our readers felt it worth championing, or whether we have helped the writer on to commercial publication. Read an extract of their work, and how TLC supported them, in the Showcase.

Why I Write

The Literary Consultancy presents four specially commissioned short films featuring some of the UK’s most exciting writers, telling their story of how they became writers; and how you can too.

Useful Links

A selection of useful links from around the web that we’ve put together from our years of experience. Ranging from organisations, to individuals, to online magazines – you’re sure to find something new and helpful here.

TLC Mini Guides

TLC Press Craft and Creativity Mini Guides are a series of low-cost, practical guides for writers on aspects of writing and editing, written by our expert professional readers. These mini guides were created based on discussions with our writers, as well as on a sense of common issues that come up in TLC manuscript assessment reports. Each guide can be bought and downloaded in one of three formats: as a mobi file (for Kindle e-readers), an epub file (for all other e-readers) or as a print-friendly PDF (for printing/reading on your desktop or laptop computer).
